1 Timothy 6:20 O Timothy, keep that which is committed to thy trust,
avoiding profane [and] vain babblings, and oppositions of science falsely so
called:
I’d like to talk to you for a little while about what many intelligent and educated men
and women of today call oppositions to the bible. I’d like to talk about some
untestable and unproveable theories that men have put their trust in, instead of
trusting in God. You see, I Thessalonians 5:2,3 tells us that the lost will still be calling
“peace and safety” even when the final destruction is upon them, and the truth of
these scriptures can be seen in the various things men have invented to give them a
feeling of safety. How interesting that people are fearful to simply state that there is
no God and go about their daily lives, no they need proof before making such a
reckless statement, and unfortunately, many feel that modern science has provided
such evidence.
Many in the church think that we don’t need to talk about such things as come from
science books, but only those things which come from the bible. I submit to those
folks that you can’t refute an atheist with the bible, he considers himself to be a more
logical person than his Christian neighbor and looks to science and its so called facts
for answers, and he considers the bible to be outside of this realm. This leaves us
with a paradigm… We are instructed in 1 Peter. 3:15 “But sanctify the Lord God
in your hearts: and [be] ready always to [give] an answer to every man that
asketh you a reason of the hope that is in you with meekness and fear”: so
how are we to answer the atheist?
We must meet him on his own turf and use his own reasoning, Paul states in 1
Corinthians 9:19-22 “19 For though I be free from all men, yet have I made
myself servant unto all, that I might gain the more. 20 And unto the Jews I
became as a Jew, that I might gain the Jews; to them that are under the law,
as under the law, that I might gain them that are under the law; 21 To them
that are without law, as without law, (being not without law to God, but under
the law to Christ,) that I might gain them that are without law. 22 To the
weak became I as weak, that I might gain the weak: I am made all things to
all men, that I might by all means save some” When we are speaking to those
atheists (or Roman Catholics) who believe in evolution, we must become as those
atheists, in our reasoning only that is, in order that we might convince them of the
truth of God’s word, and for that matter, his very existence….
For the remainder of this writing, I would like to share with you some thoughts and
facts that can be used to disprove the evolutionists’ theories, without going to the
bible, as they reject the bible as fantasy. Once we have them convinced, by use of
science and logical reasoning, that the presence of creation demands the presence of
a creator, then, we might take them to the bible to show them who that creator is.
I guess this is as good of place as any to note that these articles speak of the “big
bang” theory of the origin of our planetary system. These articles also speak of
evolution. It is not my intention to give a discourse on the differences between
macroevolution and microevolution but I feel that something should be said on the
topic. To make a long debate short, microevolution, which could really just be called
“adaptation” is an observable phenomenon that can be backed and proven.
Microevolution is observed in such creatures as the Galapagos finches and accounts
for variety and adaptation within a species, such as the different beak shapes
observed among the finches. Macroevolution on the other hand is the preposterous
theory that these finches might one day “evolve” into squirrels or bats or daffodils
(for all are evolved from the same ancestor according to evolution!). Throughout
these articles when evolution is mentioned, it is macroevolution that is being dealt
with. I will speak further on “microevolution” or “adaptation” later in this series and
show that microevolution in no way contradicts the word of God. For a much
better explanation of micro vs. macro evolution you may want to read this article
from the scienceagainstevolution.org site.
