How do I become a member of your church? Well I’m glad you asked! To
become a member of our congregation you simply have to be a member of
the Lord’s church! No voting you in, no writing your name in the church
record book, no silly ceremony or “repeat after me” sessions in front of the
congregation. Nope, if you’re a member of the Lord’s church then you can
be a member of our congregation. So the question actually becomes, “How
do I become a member of the church of Christ?” Well I’m glad you asked. :-)
To become a member of the church of Christ is very simple. One has only
to look at the New Testament, do what the folks recorded in its pages did to
become Christians, and voila! Added to the Church! Any New Testament
preacher or student worth his salt can tell you that obeying the gospel call
to become a Christian takes H. B. R. C. Bap.
Allow me to clarify.
H You must HEAR the word.
“So then faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.”
Romans 10:17
B. You must BELIEVE the gospel.
“He who believes and is baptized will be saved; but he who does not believe
will be condemned.” Mark 16:16
R. You must REPENT of your sins.
"Therefore let all the house of Israel know assuredly that God has made
this Jesus, whom you crucified, both Lord and Christ." Now when they
heard this, they were cut to the heart, and said to Peter and the rest of the
apostles, "Men and brethren, what shall we do?" Then Peter said to them,
"Repent, and let every one of you be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ
for the remission of sins; and you shall receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.”
Acts 2:36-38
C. You must CONFESS the name of Jesus.
“…if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart
that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved. For with the
heart one believes unto righteousness, and with the mouth confession is
made unto salvation.” Romans 10:9:10
Bap. You must be BAPTIZED in water for the remission of your sins.
“There is also an antitype which now saves us -- baptism (not the removal
of the filth of the flesh, but the answer of a good conscience toward God),
through the resurrection of Jesus Christ” 1 Peter 3:21
Let us assist you in obeying this biblical pattern and the LORD will add you
to HIS church. (Acts 2:47) Once you have been added to His church, then
you can be a member of our local congregation. Any church of Christ
congregation is simply a group of people whom the Lord has added to His
church who assemble together in a certain physical location (church
building, home, conference room, etc.) to worship God as His word directs.
